![]() I am looking forward to having more growing space in a few years, where I can control temperature and humidity for each species.R/MushroomGrowers is a supportive community of amateurs and professionals from around the world collaborating on mushroom cultivation. But apparently need to be grown in slightly warmer conditions than my typical lower 60s F environment. The Golden Oysters are a very beautiful and tasty treat. After these kits seem to be done, my plan is to mix the remains with potting soil for my house plants, or try to inoculate more sterilized medium, either way just see what happens. ![]() The Lion's Mane seems dormant now, but will keep it hydrated just in case. A second flush just started up, even though I had been neglecting it, and didn't notice until returning from vacation. They were incredibly delicious, with delicate flavor. I took many pictures - would have made a great time lapse if I had a tripod set up. The growth rate was astonishing, with noticeable changes within hours. The Golden Oyster finally fruited, and surprisingly quickly grew to palm sized disks. Then later spring the temperature slowly climbed to the upper 60s F, even hitting 70F. I thought it was a humidity thing, and tried making a plastic tent, but to no avail. While the Golden Oyster put out a few false starts that turned brown and wilted. The Lion's Mane had 5x decent flushes with large dense, intricate softball sized fruiting bodies. I'm cold adapted, being of northern European descent and a skier and ice climber, so these temperatures are my comfort zone, with little heating and no air conditioning required. I live in a chilly basement, where it is often high 50s F through the winter, warming to 70F by mid summer. I bought Golden Oyster and Lion's Mane spray and grow kits in February, it is currently late July. Storingĭelicious, but need warmer temperatures than my 60F winter basement Mushrooms should be ready to harvest 2-5 days after pin formation. The warmer the environment the faster they will grow. So when you spot your first pins keep an eye on them. Once pins begin to form, mushrooms will grow quickly. The mushroom mycelium will sense the oxygen in the air and produce mushroom 'pins,' another term for 'baby mushrooms.'ĥ) It usually takes 5-14 days for pins to form. We suggest putting it on a kitchen counter close to a sink. (If your mushrooms start to grow but dry up and die, your growing conditions may be too dry and you should make a humidity tent!)Ĥ) Place your kit in the most humid part of your home and outside of direct sunlight. Spritz your kit at least twice daily - more if you're in a particularly dry climate. Fill the sprayer with tap water and generously spritz the plastic where you sliced your 'X' shape. Open the front of your kit along the perforated line and dispose of the remaining cardboard.Ģ) Slice an 'X' into the plastic underneath with a sharp knife or scissors.ģ) Lift open the top of your box to find the sprayer and instruction booklet. The mycelium of some species is more prominent than others.ġ) Inside this box is an amended sawdust block that has been completely colonized by mushroom mycelium. It may appear covered with a soft, white, mold-like substance - that's the mushroom mycelium! It is completely normal. Your kit includes an amended sawdust block fully colonized with mushroom mycelium.
